Friday's Fragrance

Sorry been so MIA on the blog updates. I'll try to get back to my daily update routine.

So for Fragrance Friday, since it's almost pay day (hurrah!), why not splurge on yourself? Retail therapy is the best form of medicine for the soul.


COCO Mademoiselle Chanel
Eau De Parfum

Love it! This is one perfume that I like to wear on rare occasions. I wouldn't use it everyday because of (1) financial reasons, (2) it has a bold and distinct scent. The scent from this is not very mature, (like the other Chanel perfumes), but it isn't suitable for teenagers either. It is long-lasting, feels new to wear to a good gathering, is sensual and feels like a personal luxury. Watch out for fakes if buying online!

Top Notes: Orange, Bergamot, Grapefruit

Middle Notes: Litchi, Rose, Italian Jasmine

Base Notes: Indonesian Patchouli, Haitian Vetiver, Bourbon Vanilla, White Musk

This smells very similar to the Chloe perfume.

Friday's Fragrance

This week's perfume selection is Flora by Gucci. Love, would be an understatement!

Top notes: citrus, peony, and the heart is a gorgeous blend of rose and osmanthus
Base notes: pink pepper, sandalwood and patchouli

This is a light hearted and young spirited floral fragrance for women. It is a sheer, very pale and clean fragrance. Other than the peony, nothing stands out, that also, the peony lasts for a short while (in a good way). It's floral but not too floral (the rose and osmanthus are a subtle scent). It's not too fruity. It's sweet but not too sweet. Just the right blend of notes! If you are not a fan of sandalwood or pathcouli, doesn't matter, the base is a fairly bland woody musk. It's suitable for all ages!

Available in Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette.

This was a gift and I instantly loved it! I am very particular with perfumes - If I don't love it - I won't use it. Luckily, this was a really good pick by a friend - ahem, thanks Shivu! Need to restock!

Let's shake things up a little! For the fragrance of the week, I pick this men's perfume from Marks and Spencer.

Eau de toilette for men

Their autograph scent for men is an aphrodisiac. It's the right balance between subtle and strong, it's musky and just plain sexy. The other variations in the Autograph line (for men especially) are really good as well. I'd say men's perfumes and colognes in general have a more sensual effect on the ladies, than vice versa.

Also, its quite difficult to find a men's perfume that you really don't like. With ladies perfumes you can categorize between, hate - like - love, but with men's perfumes it's more of a decision between like - love. For this, it's a love!

Friday's Fragrance

For this week's selection, my favorite is the White Musk scent from The Body Shop.

This is a velvety, sensual fragrance that lasts for hours. Being an eau de parfum, it is the most concentrated, longest lasting, and strongest form of fragrance. Moreover, the size is perfect to fit in your handbag. Not fruity at all, and it's not a perfume that smells sweet, but instead, it's one of those that smells fresh and morning-like. Love it! 


The Body Shop White Musk
Eau De Toilette 30 mL

Giving the same fragrance as the Eau De Parfum, the difference is that this is a lighter version. Oftenly used as a body splash. If choosing between the two, I'd recommend buying the Eau De Parfum. It gives a stronger fragrance, and a longer lasting one. As this is a fragrance that is not fruity at all or so sweet that its sickening, it's a refreshing blend. 

Friday's Fragrance

 Talking about perfumes, there are a variety of types; eau de parfum, eau de toilette, etc. How do you choose?

First, we have to know the difference between the products. Why does a 100mL of eau de perfum cost more than 100mL of eau de toilette? What's the difference?

The difference in price is due to the difference in concentration levels. Alcohol is used as a liquid base for perfume. The ratio of alcohol to scented perfume concentrate determines the final label. From the highest concentration to least, the different forms of perfume are:

• Perfume, can include 15-40% perfume concentrates. As this is the purest form of scented product, it is also the most expensive. Also known as extract or extrait perfume. 
• Eau de parfum, includes 7-15% perfume concentrates. This is the most popular and common form of perfume found. It provides a long-lasting fragrance and generally isn't as expensive as perfume.
  
• Eau de toilette, includes 1-6% perfume concentrates. Originally intented to be a body splash, the scent doesn't linger as long as the more intense versions.
  
• Eau de cologne is sometimes used interchangeably with eau de toilette. This is also a light, fresh fragrance.

This has the sensual elements of velvety woods, extravagent florals and seductive musk. Although it was released in 1998, it remains as my favorite perfume. It has a spring-like feel to it and lasts long. It's not too sweet or fruity, and gives an intense refreshing fragrance - got to love it!
